That’s Walmart, though. The heat here in Texas fries those value batteries fast.

Why does it matter where you buy it? Walmart is way more convenient than AutoZone, and it’s cheaper.
@Braint
He was talking about AutoZone specifically… and I know prices are double there.
@Braint
That’s because it’s not an AGM battery, which is what Kia recommends for their vehicles.

Kia doesn’t use AGMs from the factory unless you have start-stop. The regular lead-acid ones are fine unless you need something for extreme weather.

A battery shouldn’t cost thousands though.
You can get a battery at AutoZone for like $60-$80 and install it yourself.
Batteries are really expensive now. Costco charged me $125 for my CX-5 battery.
How did you get them to replace your engine? My Soul burns oil like crazy, but the dealer charges for every little test.

They told me burning up to 3 quarts between changes is ‘within spec’… seems like Kia made these engines like 2-strokes
@Magdalina
It’s more like every Kia needs a new engine, and they just don’t wanna pay for it.

Dealers charge for oil tests because it’s technically an oil change. Kia will refund your costs if your engine gets replaced.

What year is your Soul? Kia offers a lifetime warranty on certain models if the knock sensor system is installed.
@LyamGenesis
I have a 2018 Soul. They told me I didn’t qualify until recently, but since I’m not the original owner, I still have to pay.

Mine was used too, and it still got covered. I even bought it from a Toyota dealer, but Kia replaced the engine for free.
@LyamGenesis
What code do you need for the free engine? My knock sensor came on, and my dealer says it’s not covered.

P1326 knock sensor detection system. The Soul might not be covered under this recall, though. Try calling Kia’s customer service.
My 2017 Soul just seized last week. Bought it used too. Did Kia honor the warranty?

Based on the post, yeah. They bought it used, and Kia replaced the engine for free under warranty.
@lorriebosche
My bad, guess I missed that detail
@lorriebosche
Yep, got lucky with that.

Not the first time I’ve heard Kia replacing engines like that. My son’s buying a Kia Sportage that had a full engine replacement under warranty.
