So, I bought a 2017 Kia Soul a couple of years ago with about 70k miles. It was burning through oil, and I had to add more between oil changes, which was frustrating. Last month, while driving, the engine died after the oil light had only been on for a day. Kia ended up replacing the whole engine for free… super lucky. I even had the recall engine parts replaced last summer, but it still gave out. If I had to pay, it would’ve been over $10k. Also, my battery died too, but AAA hooked me up with a new one for about $200. Way better than paying thousands. Anyway, stay safe out there and keep an eye on your oil changes.
Finally a happy ending
A battery shouldn’t cost thousands though.

Pretty sure they meant $200 for the battery and thousands for the engine. Makes sense, right?

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up.

You can get a battery at AutoZone for like $60-$80 and install it yourself.

Not anymore. I got one for my Soul a few months ago, and it was $150.
@Joy
Guess I need to adjust for inflation
@Joy
Walmart, Costco, or Sam’s Club usually have cheaper options if they carry your battery.

I got mine from Walmart. Prices have gone up. It’s $180 now.

Costco has them for $109 though.
@CharlotteAmelia
The AGM ones are $169… depends on the model.

I did say ‘most’ batteries are cheaper

Fair, but in a conversation about Kia Soul batteries, it’s kinda pointless

Not so much anymore.

Honestly, for similar quality, it’s only a few bucks cheaper at Walmart or Costco compared to AutoZone.

Yeah, batteries haven’t been that cheap for a while.
@ManKia
I swear I got one for my Altima for $80 last year.

Might wanna check again… AutoZone shows $189 for the Soul and $169 for the Altima. Prices are crazy high now.
@ManKia
People really should do their research before assuming. Yes, you can still get new batteries under $80 from Walmart. I use the 26R battery for my Soul, and it’s been reliable. Here’s the link: Robot or human?
