I really love my car, but I’ve been noticing some problems during this tough winter in NE Ohio. Every time it snows, the collision sensors stop working and keep going off. The wipers also aren’t in the best spot to avoid ice buildup. Does anyone else have these issues?
I drove my 2025 on an icy, snowy forest road yesterday, and it worked pretty well. The AWD kicked in and sent power to the rear wheels, and I used the downhill assist without any problems.

I don’t have a problem with how it handles in the snow. It’s just the little things like the sensors and wipers.
@Jade
It’s common for car systems to struggle in the snow. I don’t think there are any brands with heated cameras and sensors. The system gets turned off to avoid false readings when there’s snow on it.
@rick
Tesla actually has heated cameras and sensors.
Sensors and wipers definitely need work.

Are they worse than other cars? I live in the southwest, so I don’t deal with snow regularly, but I did rent a car for a ski trip and it had similar issues. The wipers were manual, and the sensors didn’t work right after I stopped or got in the car.
@MaryJane
I live in the north and have driven MB, BMW, Subarus, and Acuras, but the Telluride’s sensors and wipers are much worse in comparison.

I wish I could afford a luxury SUV, but I do appreciate the value the Telluride gives.
@CHRISTINE
It’s not a deal breaker though. I’d still buy it again.
The sensors tend to stop when the snow is slushy or messy, and that’s not just a Telluride issue. It’s something you’ll find with most vehicles. They work fine in normal snow and cold weather.
I have the same issue. The sensors get blocked, and the wipers always catch ice on the bottom left corner. It’s hard to see through that. But overall, it handles well, though it does slow down when I switch to snow mode.
I’ve been thinking about getting some washer fluid and putting it in a spray bottle to clean the cameras and sensors.
I live in NE Ohio too, and I haven’t had these problems. The only issue I’ve had is icicles over the rear cam. My 2023 handles well even in freezing rain.
That only happened once, and by the time I got to the parking lot, there wasn’t any snow on the sensors. It was pretty weird.
Yeah, the sensors annoy me too. I try to clear the cameras and sensors as best as I can when it snows. I don’t use snow mode; I prefer putting it in sport and drifting around.
It’s not just heavy snow, but even rain or big snowflakes can make the sensors go crazy. I’ve turned off all the driver assistance features, use snow mode, and manually shift to AWD when needed. The wipers aren’t any worse than my old Subaru.
You can prop the wipers up when parked or snowing, which helps prevent them from getting damaged by snow. I agree, the sensors are too sensitive during snow.
The wipers and snow are a disaster. Snow builds up under the wiper and makes it stop with a thump. It’s hard to get the snow out, and I think it’s damaging the linkage.
This is a common issue with modern tech in the snow. Another gripe is that LED headlamps don’t heat up to melt the ice while driving.
