So, I’m kinda stumped. I used to drive an old Toyota Camry and checking the transmission fluid was a breeze. Just a quick pull of the dipstick and I was good to go. Now I’ve got a Kia Sorento, and I can’t for the life of me find where the transmission dipstick is.
The Kia Sorento, especially the newer models, can be a bit tricky when it comes to checking the transmission fluid. Unlike your old Toyota Camry, many Kia Sorento models, particularly from 2011 onwards, have a sealed transmission system. This means they don’t have a traditional dipstick for checking the transmission fluid.
Instead, you will find a fill plug and a check plug on the transmission itself. To check or add transmission fluid, you typically need to:
Locate the fill plug on top of the transmission.
Remove the check plug on the side of the transmission.
Add fluid through the fill plug until it starts to drip from the check plug.
It is a bit more involved than just pulling a dipstick, but it ensures the transmission fluid is at the correct level. If you are not comfortable doing this yourself, it might be a good idea to have a professional mechanic handle it.
