2017 Kia Optima. It’s next to the passenger temperature knob.
It’s a temperature sensor for the A/C climate control.

Thank you .

I used to think it was the interior mic for the sound system, lately thinking it’s the air temp sensor for “Auto” setting on climate control. Always been curious about these little “vents” as well.
Edited for spelling.
@zack
My wife’s guess was the mic, but that’s clearly near the rearview mirror.
Climate sensor for auto adjustment
It’s for air quality
Thermostat sensor for automatic adjustment.
Clean the damn car.

I know… I was just telling my wife it’s time for a deep clean. I noticed the vent and it looked way dustier in the picture than in person. I know what I’m doing tomorrow.
@CateGee
I clean the console and within a day all the dust is back lol. They need some kind of anti-dust coating.
I sure was wondering what that was. I’ve got a 2016 Optima. Glad somebody posted it. Thanks.
Still can’t find the microphone in the car.

The mic is integrated into the Roof/Map Lights console. It’s the same in my 2016 Soul.
@Luchivya
That’s what I was guessing but wasn’t sure. Appreciate it.

No problem.

It’s an air intake for the HVAC system. Most have a little fan in there as well. My 03 A6 squeaks every so often, just never bothered to have it fixed. At least in the Audi, it’s not only temp but also ‘air quality’ so it can open/close the outside vent as needed when set to Auto.
