I just got a 2021 Kia Sorento SX Prestige with 24,535 miles. There are so many apps out there, and I’m not sure which ones are actually useful. Any suggestions?
The infotainment system probably hasn’t been updated yet. Some people like the old Nixie tube style, but I’ve gotten used to the newer setup. You should update it for the latest maps and points of interest.
As for apps, I recommend Google Maps, Spotify, MyRadar, and maybe a police scanner app like Scanner Radio.

Can you update it yourself, or do you need to go to the dealer?

You can do it yourself. Go to Kia’s website and download their updater tool. You’ll need a 64GB USB drive. Plug it into your car, and it’ll handle the rest.

I had no idea. Thanks for sharing this .
@Cillian
This is gold. Appreciate the tip .

What’s Pandora? I see several versions like Pandora Connect, Pandora BT, Pandora Online, and Pandora Pro. Is it for connecting with the car like Kia Connect, or is it something else?
If your car supports Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, Google Maps and Spotify are great choices. Google Maps now even shows police locations and speed cameras.

Waze is better for speed cameras and police alerts. Google has been adding similar features lately, though.
@Amoura
Good point about Waze. It’s owned by Google, so I wonder why they don’t just combine it with Google Maps. Maybe they’re slowly integrating Waze’s features into Google Maps already.

Yeah, I’ve seen reports in Google Maps that say ‘police reported on Waze.’

People who haven’t used Waze might not realise it’s more than navigation. It’s like a small social network for drivers.
Kia Connect is a good one to try.
If you use CarPlay, the default Apple apps are solid (Maps, Music, Messages). I also recommend Overcast, Libby, NPR, and Audible. Some people like the MLB app. Parking apps and gas station apps can also be useful.
OrganicMaps is great for offline navigation. I stick to Apple Music when driving, though I don’t use many other apps on the road.
YouTube Music is awesome. You can add MP3s and make playlists, then shuffle them to mix things up.
Avoid Kia apps. They track your data and share it with your insurance company, which can lead to higher premiums.
- Kia Connect for remote start on cold mornings. 2) Radar scanner for spotting speed traps. 3) A Bluetooth adapter for CarPlay. 4) Any music app you like—I use Spotify.
Does anyone know how to get the old Nixie tube display back?
Get an AirTag and use Find My in case your car disappears from your driveway.
