Steering wheel buttons and backup camera not working on 2015 Sorento... any ideas?

None of the buttons on my 2015 Kia Sorento’s steering wheel are working—can’t reset the trip, use cruise control, or anything else. Also, the backup camera doesn’t show a picture, but it still beeps when I’m close to something. The steering wheel buttons stopped working about 18 months ago, and the backup camera hasn’t worked since a few months after I got the car. Any ideas on what could be causing these issues?

It could be the clock spring in the steering wheel. That’s a common cause for all the buttons to stop working.

I’ve heard that mentioned before. Any way to test it without going to the dealer?

@Alex
You’d need some electrical testing equipment to confirm. Might be easier to have a mechanic take a look if you’re not familiar with that stuff.

For the backup camera, it could be a wiring issue or a faulty camera module. You might need to check the connections in the back.

I’ll check the wiring first. Hopefully it’s something simple like a loose connection.

I had a similar issue with my Sorento, and it was the clock spring. Replacing it fixed the steering wheel buttons for me.

Good to know. I’ll look into replacing that first.

The camera might just need a reset. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and see if that helps.

I’ll give that a try. Worth a shot before replacing parts.

If the clock spring isn’t the issue, it could be a wiring problem. Might need to check the connections behind the wheel.

Thanks for the tip, I’ll check the wiring too.
