Sportage takes 5 mins to start… what could be causing it?

Not with a fancy car that has all the screens and tech. It’s a different experience.

My 1996 Honda Accord did something similar. It had dash lights flashing when the battery was dying.

Mine didn’t cycle like that. I’d check by turning the ignition and listening for sounds under the hood. Newer cars are trickier.

That’s strange. My ‘25 Sportage SX Hybrid starts and stops pretty much instantly.

Try checking the battery first. If you have a jump box, use it and see if that helps. You can also take it to AutoZone to get the battery and alternator tested. Worst case, take the battery out and they’ll test it. I think it only has a 1-year warranty, so it might be covered.

Usually, it’s just the battery with anything electrical. It’s often that simple.

As a tech, I always test the battery first when dealing with electrical issues.

Weird question, but did you add a secondhand alarm system? I had a lot of problems with my ‘17 Sportage after doing that.

No, it’s completely unmodified and always serviced at the dealer.

It could be the alternator. That’s what happened to me, and I had to replace mine. But, it might also be the battery. Also, I’ve noticed if I don’t press the brake hard enough, it won’t start.

Just jump it and go from there.

Kia just doesn’t seem reliable to me.

You might need a third banana to get it to run.
