Just curious if those who own the 2025 Sportage gas model think the power is enough for daily driving? I test drove one, and it felt comfortable and smooth, but I didn’t get to fully test the power. I had just finished driving the K4, which felt a lot stronger. I’m not someone who needs a fast car, something like the RAV4 works for me, so I’m mostly thinking about how it performs for things like merging onto highways or overtaking. Would love to hear your experiences .
Honestly, it’s okay. Coming from a VW Passat 2.0T, I was a bit let down, but over time, you get used to it. It’s not as quick on the pedal, but for highway ramps, it’s fine. If you need more power, maybe consider the Hybrid. It’s not a huge difference, but it’s noticeable from a stop.
@LebronJames
Same here, I have the slower motor, but it works fine. I’ve gone up steep hills with passengers, and it still manages to climb steadily. I’ve gotten used to it. The fuel economy is good though.
@LebronJames
Exactly what I went through. Sold my Passat and got the Sportage. At first, the power felt lacking, especially when merging or going uphill. It feels better now, but the power is still noticeable when starting from a stop.
@LebronJames
Got the hybrid, and it’s surprisingly powerful for its HP.

Haha, easy for you to say since it’s much more expensive.

But I save a lot on gas though
@vincent
Yeah, but how long will it take to make up for the extra cost? Plus, from what I’ve read, the mileage advantage isn’t as big as expected. They are cool though.

I’m not arguing about the costs, but I’m getting 38mpg and only need to fill up once every 4 weeks. Plus, it’s pretty quick

The hybrid does great with city driving… and even on slower highways. People not getting the expected mileage might be using it wrong or not in the right situations.
@LebronJames
Thanks
It’s a bit less responsive than I’d like, but I’ve found it to be okay overall.

Thanks, good to know .
I went with the hybrid for this reason. If it’s mostly just you driving, you’ll probably feel it more with passengers.
We’re really happy with ours. The acceleration is fine. But living in a hot climate, I worry a bit about the hybrid battery degrading over time.

That’s reassuring, thanks .
Yes, I got the 2025 Sportage for this exact reason. I live in a hilly area and need a car that won’t slow down on the hills. It handles well even better in Sport drive mode.

That’s really helpful, thanks!
I have the 2025 gas Sportage, and it’s not fast. But if you switch it to ‘sport’ mode, it’s much quicker. I use it in traffic to get some speed for stopping and starting. The gas mileage is great though, I’m averaging almost 35 mpg, which makes up for the lower power. Plus, I get fewer speeding tickets
@Wyatt
I agree. I have the 2024 gas EX, and I’m getting almost 35 mpg too. I don’t do much city driving, so it has enough power for me. I have FWD, so that helps with mpg. Wouldn’t drive anything else!
