Question about Kia Security Update - Why Wasn't My Kia Stolen?

Good morning… :unamused:

So, I had the security update done on my Kia about a month ago to stop it from getting stolen, but something really weird happened last night, and I need some help figuring it out.
Someone tried to steal my car. They pried off the door handle, got inside, ripped up the dashboard and the ignition part. Here’s the crazy part—they actually got the car started and looked like they were about to drive off. But for some reason, they left without taking it. This all went down in like 3 minutes (based on my Ring cam), and my neighbor ran over the door handle and called me. When I came out, the car was still running!

Now, here’s what I don’t get. I thought the update was supposed to stop the car from starting if it was locked and someone tried to steal it. Was I wrong, or did the update fail somehow? The car was definitely locked when they broke in. Thankfully, they didn’t take off with it, but I’m really confused.
Has anyone else had something like this happen after getting the security update? I’d appreciate any advice or thoughts!

Your response will be highly welcome :grinning:

:unamused:The initial wave of thefts may have peaked in your location even with the revisions. The risk should continue to drop as more cars get the upgrade.

Certain Kia models and their unique features may deter would-be burglars. Advanced security features on cars, such as tracking systems, alarms, and immobilizers, may make them less vulnerable to theft.

 The way you park and where you live may also be factors. Potential robbers may be discouraged by parking in a secure, well-lit area.

The amount of automobile thefts may have been impacted by the general crime rate in your community. Car thefts may have dropped if there has been a general decline in crime.
