Hey folks, I’ve got a 2019 Kia Sorento with around 130K miles. The oil pressure light comes on when I’m idling at a stop, but it turns off as soon as I press the gas a little. Oil level is fine, and I regularly change the oil and filter. Any suggestions on what could be causing this?
Could be a faulty oil pressure sensor. If it’s giving false readings, the light might come on without there being an actual issue.

Makes sense. Do you know where the sensor is located?
@MarthaWhite
Yeah, it should be beneath the intake manifold. If you’re not comfortable checking it yourself, a shop can test it with a mechanical gauge.
If the sensor is fine, you might be looking at a low oil pressure situation. Could be due to a worn oil pump or even clogged oil passages.

I hope it’s not the oil pump. Any way to test if it’s actually a pressure issue?
@MarthaWhite
A shop can hook up a mechanical gauge to measure the actual oil pressure. That’s the best way to confirm if there’s a real problem.
I had a similar issue, and it was a bad oil pressure sensor. Replaced it, and the light stopped coming on at idle.

Good to know! I’ll start by checking the sensor. Hopefully, it’s just that.
Make sure your oil isn’t too thin. Sometimes using a thinner oil can cause low pressure readings, especially when the engine is hot.

I use the recommended oil, but I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks!
If you notice the issue happening more frequently, I’d definitely get it checked out soon. Low oil pressure can lead to engine damage over time.

Yeah, I’ll keep an eye on it and make sure to get it checked if it keeps happening. Thanks for the advice.
