My Kia Couldn't Make It Up the Hill… Do I Need Better Tires?

I just got a Kia Soul three days ago, and tonight it struggled to get up my hill in Pennsylvania. It was snowing a bit, but nothing crazy. My tires just kept spinning. Should I return it, or is there a fix? My other car is AWD, so I’m not used to this.

Your tires probably aren’t great. These cars can handle winter roads if they have the right tires.

I just bought it. Any recommendations for good tires?

If you’re driving on slick roads, you need real winter tires. Stock all-seasons won’t cut it. Michelin X-Ice Snow is a solid choice if you want studless winter tires.

Any all-season tires with deep tread should help, but dedicated winter tires are better.

Are you looking for all-season tires or winter tires? Big difference in snow performance.

I’m in Canada. Michelin CrossClimate tires are great. But if you deal with real winter conditions, get proper snow tires with the three-peak mountain snowflake symbol. Mud and snow (M+S) rated tires aren’t the same. I have cable chains, but I’ve never needed them with good winter tires.

Get dedicated winter tires on rims, or at least switch to all-weather tires.

Pennsylvania doesn’t get much snow, but you still need good tires. Are you new to snow driving?

You must not be from Pittsburgh… You didn’t call it ‘a little slippy.’

Go to Walmart and get some Goodyear Reliant All-Seasons. That should help. :red_car::snowflake:

If you’re dealing with real winter roads, get Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires. Everyone up here in Northern Canada swears by them.
