Is this really a good deal?

I saw a deal online that seemed good, but I’m not so sure now. What do you all think?

Florida has some of the highest dealer fees and extra charges. You’re looking at over $2,000 in fees and $430 for dealer add-ons, which is basically paying full price for a mid-level Telluride. I didn’t even get into the financing details, but the deal itself is bad, which is typical for Florida. I’ve lived here for years and never buy cars in-state because of this. I bought my Telluride from Indiana, paid a $225 doc fee, and spent $800 to ship it to North Florida. Why pay $2,000 in fees when you can spend less and avoid all the hassle? A lot of people are hesitant to buy out of state, but it can save you a lot. Please don’t do this deal unless you’re fine with losing money. Since you’re borrowing, every bit saved matters. Good luck, friend.

NLE isn’t wrong… Florida has a reputation for being one of the worst states to buy a car. It’s just how things are here, especially with dealerships.

Thanks for the support. I’ve lived in Florida for 24 years and always buy out of state. I buy cars every six months or so for me and my wife, and I couldn’t imagine paying all those ridiculous fees here. When you buy out of state and pay cash, you can handle DMV stuff yourself and sometimes pay a bit less on taxes. Dealers know most people won’t buy out of state, so they take advantage. Appreciate the agreement .

There’s no state income tax in Florida, so they find other ways to make money, like these insane fees.

This was the best deal from local dealerships, but even then, they inflated some of the numbers. Honestly, I didn’t even think about looking out of state.

Thanks for being upfront. Just so you know, I’ve bought 13 new Hyundai and Kia cars in the past three years, none of them in Florida. That should tell you something. Savvy buyers avoid Florida dealers. I just got an EV9 from Iowa with a $200 doc fee and under $900 shipping. No dealer nonsense. Everything was done remotely. Most people don’t want to deal with buying out of state, and dealers exploit that. I recently helped someone get a Telluride for $3,000 off MSRP, no mandatory add-ons, and a $129 doc fee from Arkansas. Please consider buying out of state—it’ll save you a lot. Good luck .

Not abrasive at all. I appreciate the advice .

Glad to help! I handle deals like these almost every day and know the tricks Florida dealers pull. Hope you find a deal you’re happy with. Cheers .

Buying out of state might get you a better deal, but you’ll still have to pay Florida taxes no matter where you buy.
