Interrupted a guy trying to steal my car... again

Got out of work and saw someone by my car with a bag, and he took off running as soon as he saw me. This is the second time it’s happened at my job. Not sure what to do anymore.

The title had me picturing you just calmly tapping him on the shoulder, like ‘excuse me, but could you stop trying to steal my car?’

Damn, the same shit literally happened to me 2 weeks ago

Absolute jerks.

You should file a police report and mention if there are any cameras where you park.

Already did! The mall security is aware of all the break-ins, but they don’t seem to be doing much about it. I went straight to the cops this time.

@Tracy
Maybe consider getting an immobilizer installed?

I have a friend who’s planning to put a kill switch in for me. Definitely need it at this point.

You might want to put a warning sticker on your window, so they know not to bother trying.

What model of Kia do you have?

It’s a 2015 Optima.

Yeah, this method of breaking in is becoming more common. People aren’t smashing windows as much anymore. Sorry this happened to you.

Wait, what method are they using?

@Chris
Some folks are removing the door handle to get in instead of breaking a window. It’s getting pretty popular with car thieves.

How do they unlock the car without a key?

@Chris
Most car door locks don’t use all the pins, so they’re actually pretty easy to pick. Check out Lockpicking Lawyer on YouTube if you want to see just how insecure they are.

I have a 2014 SXL. Luckily, no one’s tried anything with mine. I think the push-to-start and factory immobilizer keep them away.

You could always use epoxy or JB Weld to cover the keyhole. No one really uses it, and if you ever need roadside assistance, they can still open it with a tool.

Interesting idea. Never thought of that.

There should be security footage if there are cameras around. Maybe that will help.
