Hey folks, just bought a 2013 Kia Optima Hybrid for my 17-year-old, and twice now it’s given a ‘Hybrid System Warning! Safely Stop Car’ message, then shuts down while driving. Check brake light also comes on. I looked up recalls (Campaign Number 23V652000 and a few others) but no recalls show for my VIN. Anyone else dealt with this issue? It’s pretty concerning for safety, and parts aren’t available from what I’ve read. Appreciate any insights!
Wow, that sounds intense. I had the same warning in my Optima. Turned out it was a faulty brake actuator. Could be worth asking Kia directly, even if no recall is listed on the VIN.

Good to know, thanks! Did you have to replace it, or was it covered by Kia?

Kia might replace it as a goodwill fix if you press them on it. I had luck with that approach!
Had similar issues… it’s a known problem with those models. I’d definitely push Kia for support since it’s a safety issue.

Absolutely! Going to give them a call today and see what they say.
Saw this come up a lot on forums… some folks mentioned it could be the hydraulic assembly or a sensor issue. Really tricky with hybrids!

Interesting, thanks for the heads-up! I’ll keep that in mind when I talk to them.
The recalls can be VIN-specific, but definitely worth asking a dealership. Sometimes they cover things even if it’s not officially listed!

Yeah, especially if you mention the safety concern. Dealers sometimes help more if it’s a known issue.
If you’re able to get the codes checked at a parts store, that might help narrow down what’s triggering the shutdown.

Good idea! Will try to get it scanned and see if any codes pop up.
