How to disable smart cruise control?

I recently bought a 2022 telluride. I don’t like the adaptive cruise control where it slows down for me when I get within a certain distance of the car in front of me.

Someone told me that it can be disabled temporarily by holding down the button to set how far it lets cars get in front of me.

We tried holding it down and nothing happens, I can’t turn it off.

Anyone have a solution on how to disable it?

To be honest, the main reason I want to sell mine is the Kia software. At best, it’s erratic, and at worst, hazardous. Whether it’s swerving into a cyclist I’m trying to avoid striking, slamming on the brakes while backing up, or slamming on the brakes in traffic and getting rear-ended, it will eventually result in an accident. The shift points in smart mode were probably driven crazy by the most recent update as well. Not to mention the internet software that is unavailable to me due to my Massachusetts residency. The only automaker to have a meltdown over our telemetry law is Kia.

Could you elaborate on your dislike for it? Yes, I do enjoy it. It is stated in the manual, I seem to remember.

Just to be clear, are you wanting to collide with the vehicle in front of you?

I don’t know why some people find it offensive. It gets rid of the need to watch over cruise control.

You can change the distance; the first level keeps you somewhat close.

It’s too forceful for my taste. Occasionally, when it perceives that a car is braking ahead of me when it shouldn’t, it applies the brakes forcefully.

All of the land west of Ohio, with the exception of the 20 miles surrounding cities with populations of 250k or more?

Driving on the freeway in the west, I never have this issue.

Crazy folks, nevertheless, when I lived in New York. A group of hecklers.

You can change how quickly or slowly it responds by adjusting the settings in the dashboard; there are options for fast, normal, and slow.

Alternatively, if you press and hold the distance button on the steering wheel for a few seconds, it should switch to standard cruise control mode. The manual explains how to do this. If I recall correctly, this also turns off lane assist.

Press and hold the cruise button for a few seconds! I’ve had to do this when the sensors are covered in snow.

This should change it from adaptive to regular cruise control.

I have the 23 SX Prestige X Pro, and all the automatic safety features have worked perfectly without any issues.

Maybe try setting the range shorter? There are three options for how far it keeps you back. The lowest setting is quite close.

If you find anything out, please share! :joy: As far as I’m aware, there isn’t a way. I’ve searched through the manual and the forums but came up empty-handed.

The lowest range is actually quite decent. My issue, though, is that the adjustments it makes feel too forceful.
