I’m considering buying a used Kia Sportage for my growing family and safety is a big concern for me. I’ve heard mixed reviews about its reliability, and I want to ensure it’s a safe choice for my daily commutes and family trips. Can anyone tell me how the Kia Sportage performed in crash tests? I’m especially interested in how it fared in recent models. Thanks!
When it first came out in 2022, it did well in crash tests. But a new, harder test came out recently, and it did not do as well in that one. Neither did the other three minivans or a lot of three-row SUVs. This is how safety in cars has changed over time. As time goes on, the test gets harder, the cars get better, and so on.
The car was safe three years ago, so it’s not suddenly dangerous, but it will need some work to get a better number. This test only looked at people in the second row wearing seatbelts. It doesn’t show how kids in car seats would do.
In crash tests, the Kia Sportage’s performance varied by test:
- Full Width Rigid-Barrier Impact: The driver’s chest protection was rated as marginal due to chest compression readings. Other areas of protection were rated as good or adequate.
- Side Barrier Test: Protection for all critical body areas was rated as good or adequate.
