Has anyone fixed a scratch on terracotta paint inside their car… any advice?

I scratched the interior terracotta paint in my car. It’s a small mark, but it bothers me, and I know it’s my fault. I had a sharp metal object I wasn’t paying attention to. I called an auto detailing shop, but they aren’t sure they can touch it up. The local Kia dealership said they don’t carry touch-up paint for the interior like they do for the exterior. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Links to products would be perfect. I’m being picky, you can barely see the scratch unless you zoom in.

You could try asking in this forum, specifically in the auto detailing section, they might have some ideas.

You’re not being picky, you just want to keep your car in good condition. Most paint shops can mix paint to match a color. They are good at getting the shade right. I’d suggest checking places like Home Depot or Lowe’s to see if they can help with a small amount of paint.

Thanks for the suggestion! I was surprised to hear the detailing shop I go to wasn’t confident in fixing it. I think my next step is to buy a paint-matching device and see what I can come up with.

@StingerKing
I’m pretty sure paint shops use machines to match colors, and they might even be able to do it just from an image. I’d recommend calling Home Depot or another store to see if they can help over the phone.

Anyone who does leather repair might also be able to help. Leather isn’t the same as the plastic interior, but it’s worth checking someone who works on repairs like that.

Used car lots often have people who do leather repairs. It might be worth asking. Or you could have Kia order you a new door panel if it’s really bothering you.

I have a 24 Telluride with light gray interior. I’m a semi-retired artist and custom home painter. I had a similar scratch on my door panel and used a Benjamin Moore paint sample that matched the color. I applied it lightly with a small brush, and it worked well.

Maybe try using shoe polish on the spot to cover it.

It’s hard to tell if the paint is just discolored or if some is missing. If it’s discolored, I’d suggest trying a good leather cleaner and conditioner. If you’re thinking about a touch-up kit, be aware that matching the color perfectly might be tough, especially on new interiors.

@ForteFanatic
I think that part is actually textured plastic, not leather.

Actually, it’s vinyl, which is a type of plastic.

@Brynn
Yep, vinyl is a type of plastic.

I see you’re enjoying your Telluride. I’m thinking my next SUV will be a Palisade Caligraphy.

I really enjoy my vehicle and don’t have any issues. I made it clear that this was my mistake.

Mine has an actual hole in it. (edited Hole, no he) Thanks for the downvote, you heathens.
