Got a set of Thule aero cross bars for free from a local group, just in time for our first big ski trip with this car
How much does it affect the range

Just put it on, so I’m not sure yet. I’ll find out this weekend

I’m curious about the range impact too. Let us know what you find
@Johnstone
Just got back. We drove 185 miles
On the way there
Leg 1 1.8 mi/kWh mostly 75mph with battery conditioning and climate on
Charged at EA 37-90% in 25 min
Leg 2 2.1 mi/kWh mostly 50-60mph uphill with headwinds
On the way home
Leg 1 1.9 mi/kWh 40-50mph in snow mode with heavy winds
Charged at EA 21-91% in 37 min
Leg 2 1.8 mi/kWh 75-80mph with 50+mph gusts
Not much to compare. I usually get 2.3 without the box. Efficiency didn’t change much. Charging was smooth with no waits on a holiday weekend. The car handled snow and winds well
@NANCY
Thanks for the update

I’m thinking about getting something like this. Let me know how it goes
@Benaiah
Just shared my results above

Here’s a video about consumption with a roof box https://youtu.be/8ZiZcrR2nYo?si=yGHWMRoGwxiiEo2P
Check around 4:16

For those who don’t want to watch
EV9 24.0 kWh/100km
EV9 with hitch mount bike rack and bikes 24.6 kWh/km
EV9 with Thule roof box 24.4 kWh/km
Converted
EV9 2.58 mi/kWh
EV9 with hitch mount bike rack and bikes 2.53 mi/kWh
EV9 with Thule roof box 2.55 mi/kWh
Not much difference. I thought the roof box would be worse than the hitch mount
@NANCY
I get about 1.8 or 1.9 mi/kWh on ski trips with an inno BRM2020ST
75mph on the highway 20-25*F starting with a cold battery. Efficiency improves after the first charge
Dropping to 70mph helps a lot
@Gerald
That’s not bad considering the temps and speed
We’re driving to -1F this weekend. That’ll have a bigger effect than the roof box
@Gerald
I get about 2.4 mi/kWh in Wisconsin winter with nothing on the car. I can’t imagine getting 2.55 with a roof box but who knows
@Gerald
Our trip was similar. 1.8-2.1 mi/kWh through snow 50-70mph gusts 3-25*F and hills. Efficiency doesn’t matter much if charging is good
@NANCY
Thanks for summarizing
@BillSmith
I didn’t think about the sunroof since it’s winter. I should measure but it’s probably fine for 24-32 inches
Do you keep the bars on? Any wind noise
Do you know the clearance to the bars and the top of the Thule
I have the same one and already have issues with underground parking and some ferries. My clearance is about 6’8” but my garage is 7’. I’m wondering if the EV9 would clear my garage with the box on
@SorentoRanger
I’ll measure tomorrow. It’s pretty high up so it might be hard to get an exact number

Good to know
I loaned my old box to someone and warned them about clearance. They tore it off in an underground parking lot the day before returning it
They claimed it on their insurance and I got a new one
