My mum took my car without asking and ended up hitting a deer on her way back home. Saying I’m upset doesn’t even begin to cover it. If it’s not written off, how much do you reckon this is going to cost me to repair?
Probably not written off. I’d guess 15 to 17k in repairs. Do you have insurance to cover it?
When you speak to the insurance company… you’re going to say YOU hit the deer, right?

She’s already listed on my insurance as a driver.

I think you missed the point. Just say the deer hit you.

Wait, your mum is listed on your policy as a driver but still didn’t ask before taking the car? Seems odd. Wouldn’t you expect her to assume it’s fine to take it if she’s on the policy?
I had a similar accident with my ‘24 model, and it cost about 13k to fix. Your damage looks worse, though. Parts can take ages—expect a few months wait.
I hit a deer in my 2020. It busted the radiator and the front grille. I was able to drive it home but had to get it towed to the shop. Repairs cost about 7k. It went under comprehensive coverage, though. Not sure how your insurer will handle it with your mum driving. It might depend on whether she lives with you or not.
It’s fixable, but you never know with insurance. Good luck with it.
Insurance might write it off, but you could still fix it yourself if you pay out of pocket.
Definitely fixable.
Yeah, it can be repaired.
I doubt it’s written off. My car is currently in the shop after hitting a deer, and it had damage like yours, plus more to the headlight and passenger door.

That’s about where I’m at. Passenger door won’t open, headlight is gone, sensors are freaking out, and there’s pink fluid everywhere. I think the radiator’s leaking. Calling the insurance company first thing in the morning, but it’s stressing me out.
Did you at least take the deer home for dinner?
Yes.

Yes.
What? That’s not helpful.
Honestly, I’m surprised she didn’t just keep driving. Deer can be dangerous, though, so try not to be too upset with her. Good luck with everything—most people here seem to think it’s not written off.
It can be fixed, but insurance might write it off. They do that for almost anything these days.
It’s written off—I work in insurance.
