2023 EV6 GT in the best colour.

I used to drive a 2010 BMW 328xi, but it just didn’t have enough space for a growing family. I got the new car as a demo model with 8000 km on it, mostly driven by the GM’s wife, and got it for 60,000 CAD, which was 5k under asking before taxes and fees. Less than 24 hours later, I couldn’t resist and installed a Fix Cam.

@MaryJane
I see you’re using FixCam. I’ve always been put off by dashcams because of the wires. From a quick look on their site, does this one look wireless and clean? Could you share a pic of how you installed it? Was the installation easy?

@Amoura

@Amoura
Here’s another shot. Installation was simple. I watched the setup video and that was about it. The app works well enough, just like other dashcam apps. I don’t understand why we don’t have the European feature with built-in recording here, but I’ve tinkered enough to know it’s possible with time and money. As for practicality, that’s a different story.

@MaryJane
Thanks so much for sharing! This helps a lot.

@MaryJane
Did you also get the Fitcamx CPL Filter? Is it worth the extra $25?

@Amoura
It’s not wireless, but you can hide the wire easily if you only install the front camera. Installing just the front was the easiest of the 5 installs I’ve done. The rear wasn’t too bad either. Check out some reference pictures in an older comment here: https://old.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/comments/1gdj6k6/fitcam_x/lu4ic0k/

@Amoura
The FitCamX is probably the best-looking dashcam option, but you can get close to it by using a Dongar adapter and a short cable to connect it to the rearview mirror. I used to do this for a few months before I switched to FitCamX after a good deal on Prime Day.

@MaryJane
I like your colour/trim combo. Well done!

@MaryJane
Congrats! I paid almost the same for a used 2023 GT-Line Package 1, so you got a better deal than I did. If you need more range or want to mount winter tires, I’d suggest going for smaller wheels.

@maryschultz
I’ve learned that 21-inch winter tires are ridiculously expensive, and since I’m in Canada, I need them. I’ll probably just buy them and then get some nice 20-inch rims for the summer tires.

@MaryJane
You could actually go for 19-inch wheels for better efficiency :slight_smile: Unfortunately, lower trim wheels don’t fit the GT model, even if the size matches. I really like the stock 19-inch wheels on my GT-Line.

@maryschultz
I’ve got my eye on some Enkei TSR-X rims for the summer. I’ve ordered 21-inch winter tires already. After coming from heavily modified cars, most OEM rims don’t excite me. They do exist, but many look boring to me.

@MaryJane
I went with 19-inch wheels for winter on my GT. They’re cheaper and hold up better on New England’s potholes!

I debated this a lot. Winter tires for 21-inch rims cost about 2500 CAD, but 20-inch ones are around the same price. On the other hand, 19-inch winters cost only around 1700 CAD. Considering I’ll probably have the car for 4 more winters, the price difference isn’t a huge deal. I was also planning on getting a nice summer set of rims, so buying two sets when I already have one just feels off.

@stillermint
This excites the 12-year-old in me so much

Yes, I named the car RAIDEN.
