This is a Kia K5 gtline 2024, and I’m concerned about a sound I’ve noticed. Does anyone know what it could be?
This is normal
If you’re hearing the ticking in the video, it’s likely just a sound typical of Kia/Hyundai GDI engines. I have a Kia too, and it sounds the same. There’s nothing to worry about, especially if it’s just the noise and there are no other issues. It probably comes from the fuel injectors or high-pressure fuel pump.
You can check out similar sounds by searching for ‘Kia GDI engine sound’ on YouTube.
Sounds normal. My K5 sounds just like that
It’s probably the high-pressure fuel pump and injectors. My Sportage makes a similar sound.

love it
Sounds like a Kia to me… If the only issue is the noise, then I wouldn’t worry about it. Is everything else with the car working fine?
That noise is probably from the high-pressure fuel pump. All GDI engines have them, and my Forte GT makes the same sound. It’s a normal feature for most GDI engines from brands like Ford, Kia, Hyundai, and others.
High pressure pump
Is this a cold start? My Forte makes a similar noise, but it only started after a cold front, and it happens only the first time I start it each day.
I have a 2025 K5 with under 600 miles, and it sounds the same. I’m pretty sure that’s normal for these cars.
The sound is normal; it’s from the injectors and high-pressure fuel pump. I suggest changing the oil every 5,000 miles or earlier.
Try this: Get a long screwdriver or metal pole, place one end on your ear and the other on the head of the engine, then do the same with the block. If you hear the tapping, you might have an issue. If not, it’s probably something else. Also, where are you located? If it’s freezing, some parts of the car, including the engine, can make that sound until they warm up.
GDI engine
Very very normal
My K5 did that right before the fuel pump went out. Not saying this is the same issue, but it was the first sign for mine.
It’s the high-pressure fuel pump mounted on top of the engine. It’s a normal sound.
Mine made that noise recently, and it turned out to be an exhaust leak.
If it were any other car, I would say it’s a rock in the engine, but it’s a Kia… Those GDI injectors are really loud.
