Hi everyone, I have a 2019 Kia Sorento, and I’m having an issue with the brake lights. The top brake light on the back door works, but the two side brake lights don’t. I’ve checked the bulbs and the fuses, and they seem fine. I also noticed that the cruise control stopped working for a while but then started working again. Nothing aftermarket is wired into the car. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
It sounds like an issue with the IPS (Integrated Power System) computer. It directly controls the side brake lights and might need to be replaced or checked for faults.

Thanks! Do you know if the IPS computer can be tested or replaced easily?
@GriffinOtiz
You’d need a high-end scan tool to check for fault codes and monitor data signals. If it needs replacement, a dealer would have to program the new unit.
If both side brake lights went out at the same time, it’s likely a wiring or IPS computer issue. I’d check the wiring for any breaks or damage before replacing anything.

Good idea! I’ll inspect the wiring to see if there’s anything obvious. Thanks for the tip!
Did you notice if the cruise control issue happened at the same time as the brake lights going out? That could indicate a larger electrical problem.

I’m not sure, but I’ll try to pay attention if it happens again. Thanks for the suggestion!
If the IPS computer is faulty, it might cost around $150-$200 for diagnosis at the dealer, and over $400 for replacement. Just something to keep in mind.

Thanks for the heads-up. I’ll see if I can narrow it down before taking it to the dealer.
Glad the top light is working—it means your brake switch is fine. Focus on the wiring or the IPS module for the side lights.

That’s reassuring. I’ll focus on those areas first. Thanks for the input!
