I’m working on a 2003 Kia Optima with a 2.7L engine, and I need the torque specs for the axle nut. I’ve heard a range from 148 to 192 foot pounds, which feels like a big difference. Anyone have advice on what I should aim for?
Yeah, that’s a pretty big range. I’d aim for somewhere in the middle, maybe around 170-175 ft-lbs. That should be safe.

Thanks, I’ll go with that. Seems like a good middle ground.
I’ve always torqued mine to 180 on my Optima. Never had an issue.

Good to know! I’ll keep that in mind.
Be careful not to go too low on torque. I’d stay closer to the higher end of the range to be safe.

True. I’d say aim for at least 175, but no more than 192.
I did 190 on mine. Better safe than sorry, right?

Makes sense. I’d rather be on the high side too.
If you’re not sure, just split the difference like you said. Mid-range is usually a good bet.

Thanks for the confirmation. I’ll go right in the middle!
