Anyone pulled a Kia Rio engine for timing work?

My roommate and I are planning to pull the engine on our 2008 Kia Rio so we can get better access to the timing and valves. We’re just starting to get the belts and pulleys off. Anyone done this before?

Yep, did this last year on my own car. Be sure to label all the wiring connections—makes life way easier when you’re putting it all back together.

Definitely sounds smart. Thanks! Did you run into any issues with the engine mounts?

@Miller
They were a bit tricky. Make sure you have a jack ready to support the engine when you’re dealing with those.

Having the service manual on hand was a lifesaver when I did something similar. It’s got all the torque specs and step-by-step instructions.

Good tip. We’ll look for a manual. Any idea where to get one?

Try allcarmanuals.com—they should have what you need for the Kia Rio.

Take lots of pics as you go. Helps a ton when you’re reassembling and can’t remember where something goes.

Yeah, we’ll definitely do that. Thanks for the reminder!

Make sure you have all the gaskets you need before you start. Nothing worse than having to pause mid-job for parts.

Good idea! We’ll double-check our parts list before diving in.

Don’t forget to drain all the fluids first. Saved me from a mess the first time I did an engine pull.

Noted. Thanks for the heads up!
