Anyone else think this price for a K4 seems too high?

I took a test drive in a Kia K4 EX last week and they gave me this breakdown for pricing:

MSRP: $25,300

Taxes: $1,800

‘Other fees’ (which they called document fees): $940

Total: $28,100 out the door

How much room do you think I have for negotiation? Would it be crazy to ask for the MSRP as my out-the-door price? Or maybe even try to knock off $1,000? I found a lot of info on pricing for the K5, but since the K4 is so new, there aren’t many resources.

I’d try to make the MSRP the final price you pay, no extra fees.

That’s definitely my goal, but I’m not sure if asking for that is unrealistic. Is it something that’s actually possible?

Yeah, with Kias, it’s pretty common to get close to that.

This is my go-to tactic for negotiating. It’s worked a couple of times. I’ve bought both of our Hyundai cars using this at two different dealerships.

When they hand me the paperwork with their price, I turn the paper over and write down what I’m willing to pay out the door, like $25,300. Then I ask the salesperson to take that to the general sales manager.

In about 10-15 minutes, you’ll know whether to stay or walk away.

I like that approach. How much of a difference is there usually between the price you write down and what they initially offer?

One time, I wrote down $4k less than what they originally quoted me, and they accepted it.

I just bought a K4 EX about 2 weeks ago. The MSRP was $25,145, and the doc fee was $600. I couldn’t get them to lower the price, but after some back and forth, the sales manager mentioned that Kia had a new car incentive that knocked $1,250 off the price. The only catch was that I had to finance through Kia Finance America, but I figured I could just refinance later.

I ended up paying about $24.5k out the door. If they won’t give you at least MSRP, it might be worth checking another dealership. There are plenty of K4s available, so you shouldn’t have to pay extra for a new one.

Also, Kia offers really good warranties on new cars, so don’t let the finance person pressure you into buying any extra dealer warranties. The only thing you might want to consider is GAP insurance, especially if you’re not putting much down.
