Anyone else having issues with a 2011 Kia Sportage not starting?

My 2011 Kia Sportage turns over but won’t start. I replaced the fuel pump, but it’s still not coming on. I’ve checked the fuse, wire, and relay, and everything looks fine. Anyone have ideas on what could be wrong?

Had a similar issue with mine. Did you check the fuel pump’s ground connection? Sometimes it’s just corroded.

Yeah, I checked that, and it seemed okay. No corrosion as far as I could see.

Also, did you look at the ignition switch? It could be stopping power from getting to the pump.

Sounds frustrating! Could be the crankshaft position sensor messing things up. If it’s not giving the right signal, the engine might crank but won’t start.

Wait, if the crank sensor is faulty, would the engine still try to turn over?

Yep, it would crank, but it won’t start. The engine control module might not get the ‘go’ signal. Worth checking!

Maybe it’s something to do with the fuel pump relay or an inertia switch. Some cars have one that shuts the pump off after an impact.

IDK about the inertia switch… what’s that?

It’s basically a safety feature. If the car senses a hit, it stops the fuel pump from working. Helps avoid fires. You can usually reset it by pushing a button under the hood or near the trunk.

Did you check the fuel pressure with a gauge? Even a new pump might not be pushing enough fuel.

Nope, didn’t try that yet. Guess I’ll need to get a gauge.

I had a weak battery once that did this. It seemed like it was turning over, but not enough juice to get everything running. Maybe worth checking too?

Could be something with the fuel pump control module. I had to replace mine a few months ago. It was a pain but did the trick.

I’ll look into that! Thanks for the heads-up.
