2025 Sorento Hybrid SX Prestige … What Do You Think?

I can’t believe this car is mine. It’s my 9th car and 8th Kia, but this one feels extra special. It’s my 2nd Sorento, and by far the fanciest car I’ve ever owned. I’m super excited to get to know all the features of this hybrid. I’d love to know what features other drivers really like about this car.

I got the same model a month ago. I’m loving it so far. It’s my first hybrid, and I’m enjoying the MPG.

I just figured out how to read the electric part of the dash. It’s really cool to watch the battery charge and to see when it goes into EV mode. I still don’t totally understand how it works, but I’m learning. I’m a millennial, so this all feels a little like tech from the future.

@DeeMario
It’ll take time to learn. The car uses the kinetic energy from braking to charge the battery. You can control how much it charges by using the paddle shifters. If you’re used to braking with an engine, it’ll feel a bit similar.

@Johnny
Just remember, when you take your foot off the gas while using the paddle shifters, the brake lights come on. Once I figured that out, I stopped using them because I didn’t want other drivers thinking I was tapping the brakes every few seconds.

@Johnny
I’ve been reading the manuals and watching videos, but this tech is still a bit much for me. I’ll figure it out though. I’m really curious about the paddle shifters. By the way, if I run out of gas, can I still drive on the EV battery?

@DeeMario
No, the battery isn’t big enough to power the car without the gas engine. The gas engine charges the electric battery, and the hybrid battery helps the car move but isn’t meant to power it on its own. If you got the Plug-In Hybrid (PHEV), it could drive around 30 miles on just the battery when fully charged.

@Natashawilliams
Thanks so much for clearing that up .

What’s your MPG like? I’m only getting about 20 MPG at best.

Really? I’m getting at least 28 MPG consistently. I’ve been driving a bit more carefully, which might help, but even with my usual driving style, I think I’d get around 25 MPG.

@Johnny
Yeah, even when I’m cruising on the highway, the MPG meter rarely goes above 20-24. Maybe the car has only 500 miles on it, and the winter gas could be affecting it. I guess I’ll know more in a few months.

Did you manage to negotiate the price?

We didn’t have much room to negotiate, but we paid $48k.

How did you talk the sales rep into lowering the price?

@BRANDON
I had a trade-in that they weren’t offering enough for, so we signed a good faith agreement saying we’d buy if they covered the difference and adjusted the price to what we were willing to pay. It took them a couple of tries, but they did it. They padded my trade-in value, lowered the price, and gave us some rebates. We didn’t put any money down either. Who knows what they do behind the scenes, but we were happy with the outcome.

@DeeMario
Did you shop around at different dealerships to get the best deal?

No, I didn’t go to other dealers. We just wanted to test drive it. I wasn’t even planning on buying it, but then I ended up falling in love with it.

I’m curious how much I overpaid. I negotiated the price to $51,500 after taxes.

$48k, out the door.

@DeeMario
I’m looking at the same trim! Where are you located? The MSRP here is $48k, and OTD price is around $53k.
