2022 Kia Seltos won’t go forward but goes in reverse... any ideas?

My daughter is driving a 2022 Kia Seltos and it won’t go forward, but it does go in reverse. When she puts it in drive, the RPMs just rev but the car doesn’t move. She just filled up the gas tank, and everything was fine until then. There are no unusual noises or vibrations. Anyone know what could be causing this?

It could be a transmission issue, like low or dirty transmission fluid. Has she checked the fluid level yet?

No, we haven’t checked that yet. I’ll have her look at the fluid level to see if that’s the issue.

If it’s not the fluid, it could be the shift linkage or the transmission control module. Sometimes turning the car off and on can reset things.

We’ll try restarting the car and see if that helps. Thanks for the suggestion.

Has she checked for any error codes? If there’s a problem with the transmission control module, an OBD-II scanner might show a code.

We don’t have a scanner, but I’ll have her take it to a shop to get the codes checked if restarting doesn’t work.

Could be a sensor issue. If the car thinks it’s in neutral or park, it won’t engage the forward gears. Might need to get the sensors checked.

That’s possible. I’ll have her mention that to the mechanic if we need to take it in.

If the transmission fluid is low or burnt, it could stop the car from going into gear. She should check for any leaks under the car too.

I’ll have her check for leaks. Hopefully, it’s something simple like that.
