hey everyone, i just got a 2020 kia niro hybrid with 61,000 miles. yesterday i got home, turned it off, but when i tried to lock it, neither the remote nor manual locks worked. went back in and tried the ignition, but the key would turn with no start. i hit the battery reset button, and it started up fine with no error messages. this morning, after driving to school, the same thing happened—it wouldn’t lock, and the trunk wouldn’t open. had to hit the reset button again to get it started. anyone know what might be causing this?
sounds like a 12v battery issue. the niro has that reset button to pull power from the hybrid battery to the 12v. might be worth getting the battery checked if it keeps happening.

thanks, i’ll look into that. didn’t realize the reset button worked that way.
i had a similar issue with my hybrid. turned out my 12v battery was on its way out. got it replaced, and it’s been good since.
if it’s a certified pre-owned, you might still be covered for battery issues. could be worth asking the dealer.

good call, i’ll check with them. hopefully they can sort it out if it’s the battery.
doesn’t sound like a major issue as long as it’s just the 12v battery. but yeah, annoying if you’re having to reset all the time.

definitely a bit inconvenient. hoping it’s just the battery and not a bigger problem.
keep an eye on it—sometimes these things can be a sign of deeper electrical issues. hope it’s just a quick battery fix for you!
