2020 Kia Forte won’t start, brakes hard to press... any ideas?

My 2020 Kia Forte won’t start, but the key turns all the way. The brakes are stiff, and there are no warning lights on the dash. I’ve tried jump-starting, but there’s no clicking noise or anything when I turn the key. Lights and windows are working fine, and I also noticed a hissing sound when pressing the brakes. Any thoughts on what could be wrong?

Not yet. I was planning to use a test light to check it out. Is it easy to access?

If your lights and windows are working, it’s less likely to be a battery issue. Could be a problem with the starter relay, a fuse, or even the ignition switch. Check those out too.

Thanks. I’ll check the fuses and relay while I’m at it.

EricFromCT shared a starter repair guide. It has the procedures for checking and replacing the starter. Might be helpful.

If you’re not hearing any clicking or cranking, it’s possible the starter isn’t getting power, or it might have failed. Use a test light to see if there’s power when you turn the key.

Sounds like I need to start with checking the starter then. Thanks for the help.

Had a similar issue on my Forte. Turned out to be a bad ground connection. Worth checking if everything else looks fine.

I hadn’t thought about that. I’ll add it to the list of things to check.
