Hi everyone, I’m having an issue with the back hatch on my 2019 Kia Sorento. It’s not unlocking or opening. I’ve tried unlocking it using both the key fob and the unlock button on the driver’s door, but nothing happens. Unlike the other doors, I don’t hear any sound of it locking or unlocking. I’ve already replaced the lock latch lift gate actuator, but it’s still not working. There’s no visible damage to the hatch or the surrounding area. Does anyone know what else I should check?
It sounds like a power issue. Did you check if the actuator is getting power and ground when you press the unlock button?

I haven’t checked that yet. I have a multimeter, but I’m not very experienced with using it. Any tips?
@Cruise
You could set your multimeter to DC voltage, then test the actuator connector while pressing the unlock button. If you’re not getting power, it might be a wiring or module issue.
Have you scanned the vehicle for error codes in all the modules, not just the ECM? Sometimes a body control module fault can cause this.

I don’t have the tools to scan for codes, unfortunately. Would a mechanic be able to check this easily?
@Cruise
Yes, most mechanics with advanced scan tools can check all modules. It might save you time in the long run to have them look at it.
It’s possible there’s a broken wire in the harness leading to the hatch. Check for any visible damage or pinched wires near the hinge area.

That’s a good suggestion. I’ll take a closer look at the wiring near the hinge before taking it to a shop. Thanks!
If you’re hearing no sounds at all from the actuator, it’s likely not receiving power. It might be worth checking the fuse for the liftgate system too.

Good point, I’ll double-check the fuses just to rule that out. Thanks for the help!
Since you’ve already replaced the actuator and ruled out visible damage, it might be worth taking it to a mechanic who can perform a full diagnostic. It could save you time.

Yeah, I think that’s what I’ll do if I can’t find the issue myself. Thanks for the advice!
