2018 kia optima idles rough after battery replacement... no idle control valve?

hey everyone, i’ve got a 2018 kia optima 2.4l ex that started running rough and idling poorly after i replaced the battery. i was looking to replace the idle control valve but found out there isn’t one—it’s controlled by the computer and throttle body. anyone know how to recalibrate the throttle to fix the idle?

yup, these newer models don’t have an idle control valve. try doing a throttle calibration. some advanced scan tools like autel or topdon can do it if you have access to one.

thanks! i’ll check out those brands. hopefully one of them can do the trick.

sometimes just driving it without any accessories on can help it learn the idle again. might be worth a shot if you can’t get a scan tool right away.

good to know, i’ll give that a try if i can’t get a scanner soon.

a scan tool that can do calibrations is definitely useful. saved me a lot of time on my optima when i had idle issues.

autel scanners are solid and usually have the features you need. just check the specs to make sure calibration is included.

glad you found out before buying a part that wasn’t needed. hope the calibration fixes it for you!
