I’m getting a P0455 code on my 2016 Kia Sportage, which indicates a large EVAP leak. I’ve been trying to smoke test the system but can’t seem to find where the leak is. I’ve heard it could be a cracked charcoal canister, but I’m not seeing any smoke when I test around that area. Has anyone else had this issue or know the best way to find the leak?
Kia doesn’t have an EVAP test port, so you’ll need to remove the line from the purge valve and smoke the tank and canister from there. The canister is a common issue, so check for cracks around the mounting holes.
@TellurideTribe
Thanks, I’ll smoke it from the purge valve and see if that helps.
I had a similar issue with my Sportage. The canister was cracked but it was really hard to see the smoke. Try using a bright light and checking carefully around the mounting points.

I’ll try that and see if I can spot any cracks. Thanks for the tip.
If you smell gas around the canister area, it’s a good sign that the leak is there even if you can’t see smoke. Sometimes the cracks are too small to see with the naked eye.

Yeah, we’ve been smelling it there too. I’ll take a closer look around the canister.
Make sure you’re smoking the entire system, including the lines to and from the fuel tank. Sometimes the leak can be further back and not directly at the canister.

Good point, I’ll smoke the whole system to be sure.
I found a small crack in the EVAP line near the tank on mine. It was hard to find, but replacing the line fixed the code.

I’ll check the lines too. Thanks for the advice!
