Hi everyone, my daughter’s 2016 Kia Optima LX started shaking today while driving at around 45 mph. The check engine light came on and then went off. The shaking seemed to get progressively worse. All fluids were topped off by Kia recently. Any ideas on what might be causing this?
A flashing check engine light usually indicates a misfire. You’ll need to get the engine scanned for error codes to narrow down the issue. Most auto parts stores can do this for free.

Thanks, I’ll take it in for a scan and see what codes come up.
Shaking at a specific speed could also be a sign of a transmission or drivetrain issue. Has the car had any recent transmission service?

Not recently, but I’ll mention that to the mechanic when I get the codes checked. Thanks!
If the shaking is getting worse, I’d check for ignition coil or spark plug issues. They’re common culprits for misfires that cause shaking.

Good to know. I’ll add that to the list of things to check. Thanks for the suggestion!
Does the shaking stop after 45 mph or continue at higher speeds? It might help narrow down if it’s engine-related or something like a tire or alignment issue.

I’ll ask my daughter to test that and let me know. Thanks for the idea!
I had a similar issue with my Optima, and it turned out to be a clogged fuel injector. You might want to check the fuel system as well.

Interesting! I’ll bring that up when I take it in for diagnostics. Thanks!
