2011 — key fob dead, won’t start anyways

Got a 2011 Sorento LX. Key fob is dead. The good fob is with my child who isn’t answering my texts.

I put the key fob in the slot inside the center console. When I press the brake pedal and the start button, the yellow key light on the dash and the green light next to the key fob inside the console flash. When I open the door, it beeps like the key is recognized, but it still won’t let me start it. Battery is at 12.7 VDC, and it’s only a few months old.

Any ideas?

Do you have a push-to-start button? Mine works if I place the key fob right next to the button…

Yup, tried that. Still won’t work. I think that only applies to models from 2014 and newer.

The slot in the center console worked for me when my fob died.

Did you push it all the way in? It only goes in one way. When you push it, it goes past some resistance and gets ‘secured.’ It doesn’t just sit there. To remove it, you push down again, and it springs up to release the fob.

If that’s not working, maybe something’s broken?

Yeah, I think the fob is completely dead, even the passive RFID. It never worked. My kid eventually rescued me and brought the other fob.
