Hi everyone, my 2006 Kia Sorento didn’t shut down when I pulled the key out of the ignition. I recently had a front wheel alignment done, and this is the first time I’ve run into this problem. The engine kept running even after the key was out. Has anyone else had this happen?
That sounds like an ignition switch problem. Sometimes the switch gets stuck and doesn’t disengage properly.

Thanks, I’ll look into that. Does this require a replacement?
You could try disconnecting the alternator fuse or battery to stop the engine temporarily if it happens again.

Good tip, I actually tried that and it worked for now.
Replacing the ignition switch might be necessary if it keeps happening. It’s a bit of a job since it involves removing the steering wheel, so you might want a mechanic for this one.

Thanks, sounds like I’ll need some help with that!
If you’re comfortable with DIY, just remember to disconnect the battery first. Messing with the steering wheel involves dealing with the airbags, so proceed with caution.
Had a similar issue once, turned out it was a worn ignition cylinder. Mechanic replaced it, and it’s been good since.
