Why do my wipers leave a haze on the windscreen?

Whenever I use my wipers, they leave a hazy layer on the windscreen for a few seconds. It’s worse at night or when driving in the rain. I’ve tried cleaning the glass with different products like Autoglym glass polish, fast glass, and even white spirit, but nothing works. I’ve changed the wipers three times already, so I doubt it’s them.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Could it be something on the glass that’s stuck from a car wash?

Try turning on the front defroster. It helps clear up the haze faster.

This seems pretty normal. Just make sure the front defroster is on. Using the AC helps even if you have the heat on.

You could try using a water repellent product like Glaco Soft 99. I’ve had great results with it, and it works wonders on shower screens too.

Get new wipers and use Rain-X. Works great for me.

I thought new wipers would help, but the haze still happens to me too.

Try using Invisible Glass Glass Stripper. It’s affordable and worked for me when I had a greasy film on my windscreen. It’s especially noticeable during rain with the wipers on.

If there’s moisture inside the car, turn on the AC for 5-10 minutes to clear it up. It works well.

You can run the AC while using the heat. It dehumidifies the air and clears the screen faster.

Yep, a lot of people think AC is only for cooling, but it’s really for dehumidifying the air.

I always thought using AC with heat would damage the system. Guess I was wrong!

Try washing your car with dish soap like Dawn (careful as it strips wax). Dry everything well, apply Rain-X, and consider replacing the wipers.

Dish soap doesn’t harm your car paint. It just removes wax, so you need to reapply after washing. I think people overestimate the effect of dish soap on car paint.

Thanks for all the advice. I already run the AC with the heat to avoid fogging, but the haze is still there. It happens across the whole windscreen, even though it doesn’t show up clearly in videos I took.

I think it might be something from a car wash that’s stuck on the glass. I’ll try new wipers again, but I’m not too hopeful. Appreciate the suggestions.

At least you’re getting rain. We’re in the middle of a drought where I am.

Not to promote a specific product, but I recommend wipers with a water-repellent coating. They apply a layer to your windscreen as they wipe, which helps water bead off even when the wipers aren’t on. Here’s an example: Amazon.com

Set the defrost on low heat with the fan. It might help a lot.

I had the same issue with my 2022 VW Alltrack. Rubbing alcohol helped clean off whatever was causing it.

Time to clean the windscreen thoroughly.

Have you tried changing your wiper blades recently?
