What is this thing in my '22 Kia Sorento?

Occupancy sensor. If you leave your kids or pet in the car, the horn will blow.

Yeah, that’s exactly what it is. I went into the store, and my 13-year-old niece wanted to stay in the car and be on her phone. I locked the doors. Within 30 seconds, my horn was blaring. I couldn’t figure out why, thought my car was broken. Came here and found out this was happening.

@InfiniteImpulse
I tried rolling down the windows and listening to music at an event, but the wind gently blew the signs in the car and triggered the horn. No more music after that.

Super sensitive… dang.

@InfiniteImpulse
Yep, every day my Sorento reminds me to check the rear seats.

@InfiniteImpulse
Does it eventually stop beeping? What if you want to leave someone in the car?

You just can’t lock the door.

So, I never noticed the sensor, but I did notice that the driver can’t run in somewhere and leave the passenger in the car with the doors locked. Is there a way around this? (Even with no one in the back—just the front passenger)

@Sadie
I just leave the keys with the person in the car.

Can you still lock it from inside the car? I usually leave the car running but hate doing that.

Yeah, as long as the key is inside, once the doors are closed, the person inside can lock it, and the sensor won’t go off.

@Umbrielle
Thanks for the info!

Awesome, thank you.

Rear passenger detector.

Anyone know what the detection system is? Infrared? Sound?

Read the manual? Come on, people.

It’s a sensor to check if someone is in the back seats, so you don’t forget your kids.

Nah, parents of young children have been exhausted forever. We’ve needed these since cars.

@ruth
Yeah, that makes sense. This world doesn’t make it any easier for parents :joy:
