What Happens When Your Car Needs a New Transmission at 37,000 Miles?

My time with this car is almost over. As soon as I get a new transmission, I’m trading it in. I wanted to love it, but it’s been a disappointment. I’m done with Kia after this.

I just switched to Honda after driving Kia Souls for 8 years. My first Soul had transmission issues, and the second had problems with the converter. They’re nice to drive, but they don’t last, which is really unfortunate.

Just wondering what happened.

You should still be under warranty, so take it back to Kia for a free fix. It seems a bit dramatic, though.

Of course, it’s covered under warranty. But I’ve been driving for 35 years and never had a transmission fail on such a new car. Warranty aside, I now know Kia Souls aren’t reliable. I still have an outstanding recall for the pistons, and I don’t want the engine to fail too.

Cars are complicated. This should be covered by the factory warranty.

Is it an automatic or manual transmission?

It’s an automatic. And I’ve taken good care of it, driving it gently. It’s surprising that it failed.
