I’m thinking of getting a Telluride but want to know if there are any common problems. What should I be aware of?
The door trim pieces seem to fall off pretty easily. It’s been happening to quite a few people.
The body panels are super thin. Dings show up really easily compared to other cars I’ve had.
Auto-start can’t stay off unless you disable it every time you drive.
The auto wipers are either too slow or ridiculously fast with no in-between.
@Hannah
That auto stop feature drives me mad. Trying to pull into my garage and it keeps turning off the engine, then randomly restarts when I park. Makes no sense.
Also, they burn oil, which can wreck the engine long-term.
@Danielle
And replacing the catalytic converter costs a fortune.
The Tellurides from spring 2023 had issues with the door trim falling off. It seems like the adhesive or method they used was flawed. There’s a technical service bulletin about it here: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2023/MC-10238224-0001.pdf.
The 2020 model had some powertrain problems, but the later ones have been better. Reliability-wise, it’s middle of the road—not as good as Honda or Toyota but better than domestic brands. Most people like it for the features and price, not for being super reliable.
Pandemic-era cars ('21-'23) all seem to have more quality issues, though. If you want something more dependable, you might look at a lower-trim Toyota or Honda.
No wireless CarPlay, and the user interface isn’t very user-friendly.
The second-row legroom feels cramped. I’d love a few extra inches there.
The seatbelt design in the second row is frustrating—it’s buried so low in the seat that it’s hard to use, especially with booster seats.
The dealerships for these cars are terrible. Just awful service.
My engine had to be replaced after only 9,000 miles.
Issues like CV axles failing, oil leaks, door trim coming off, and sunroofs getting stuck have been reported.
Too many annoying safety features. They’re over the top.

You can turn off most of them, like the ice warning and others.

Completely agree.
The steering feels super loose when you’re coming out of park.

What year and trim level are you talking about?

I test-drove a 2024 SX last week.
@BillSmith
That’s wild. I have a 2021 and haven’t had any problems with the steering.

It’s especially bad when accelerating.

On my first turn at a stoplight, I had to overcorrect so much it surprised my passengers. It’s hard to tell where the front wheels are pointed.
You can get a Hyundai Palisade, which is basically the same car, for about $10,000 less.
