V2L Backup Power Setup—Need Advice on Extension Cords

Hallo…

I’m working on setting up V2L backup power and could use some advice on extension cords. Planning to run my French door fridge, some fans, and maybe an air fryer or toaster oven.
Here’s the setup I’m thinking:

  • A 10-foot, 10-gauge SJTW cord to go from the car into the house.
  • Then a 25-foot Yellow Jacket 12-gauge cord with multiple outlets (spread evenly) to power things around the house.

Best wishes…

Select extension :grinning:cables with an American Wire Gauge (AWG) of 14 or 12. Higher currents may be handled by these gauges without overheating.

Extension cables that are longer tend to have more resistance, which can cause heat accumulation and voltage dips. Try to keep your extension cords as short as feasible overall.

Any extension :open_mouth: cord should be thoroughly inspected for wear and tear before use, looking for things like cracks, exposed wires, and frayed insulation.

Extension cables :expressionless: should always be fastened firmly to avoid trip hazards and unintentional harm.

When in doubt, :sweat:seek advice from a licensed electrician or the manufacturer of your car for precise guidelines on how to use extension cords with your V2L system.
