Yeah, I was thinking something like a mesh screen with some double-sided tape or zip ties could do the job.

Exactly, but these are pre-made, so it’s just easier than DIY.

The description says it doesn’t block the oil plug, so it shouldn’t be an issue.

That’s right. I’ve got the skid plate pre-installed and do my own oil changes—no problem at all.
