Tesla supercharger cables… do they really reach the charging port?

Home charging is what makes EVs worth it. I only use fast chargers for road trips a couple of times a year. At home, I charge overnight at 8kW, which works just fine.

Same here. I also learned that slower charging is better for the battery. Charging at home saves me so much hassle compared to visiting gas stations.

Still stuck with only 99kW charging speeds. That’s not impressive, Tesla.

Some of this is on the cars themselves. Tesla supports 250kW speeds, but Hyundai and Kia went with 800V architecture, then adapted it for 400V chargers, which limits charging speed. They should address this.

I read somewhere that Kia and Hyundai’s charging speeds are software-limited because of power ripple issues. It’s frustrating.

@susanbauer
Got a source for that? Even if it’s true, their cars still can’t pull more than 124kW on a 400V charger.

Here’s a link: https://www.motortrend.com/reviews/2022-kia-ev6-wind-awd-yearlong-review-update-3-tesla-supercharger/

It explains the throttling. It’s annoying but makes sense now.
