Someone broke into my Seltos... Is it totaled?

Some prints could be useful. Maybe the person’s already in the system.

Unfortunately, no. The police said they were all smudged.

These Kia Boys are the worst. I’m really sorry this happened to you.

Thanks, it’s definitely a bummer.

It’s hard to say for sure. Every insurance company is different when deciding a write-off. My advice is to focus on what you can control. If they do total it, negotiate for resale value plus taxes. Have you checked if you can borrow a car from someone? Maybe look into other cars in case you need to make a quick purchase.

A lot of policies only cover 30 days of rental… definitely something to watch out for.

@CHRISTINE
Thanks for the advice. It’s my first big purchase, so I’d be really sad if it gets totaled. The ignition is damaged too, so I’m just waiting to hear what they say.

@CHRISTINE
A lot of it comes down to state rules. Insurance companies follow those for deciding total losses.

Would be nice if they caught the guy.

How bold of them to do this.

It’s hard to say. Someone broke the handle on my 2023 Sportage trying to steal it. Not even an easy car to steal, but it still cost almost $1,000 to fix.

This should be a repair job. They’ll probably replace the rear quarter and maybe fix the door skin. It really depends on where you are. Some places have more affordable repair methods.

I doubt they’ll total it since it’s still pretty new. I’m really sorry though, it sucks.

This is why I’m hesitant about getting another Kia. Whether they steal it or not, it still ends up being a hassle for the owner. It sucks.

If they do total it, I don’t think I’d get another one.

It’s a shame. I love my 2014 Kia Soul, it’s been great. But between the engine issues and the Kia Boys, I can’t really recommend the brand anymore. I don’t even drive it downtown anymore, I take my partner’s Mazda so mine doesn’t get stolen.

We’re in Nevada and our car was stolen a few months ago. My wife remotely started it to warm up the seats, and 7 minutes later it was gone.

That’s going to be a pricey repair.
