I own a 2023 Kia Sportage PHEV, and this will be the third time this year that I need to replace my windshield. It’s frustrating because it feels like the glass cracks so easily, even if it’s just a small impact. I expected better durability from a top trim model. I’ve never had this issue with my previous cars. It’s getting to the point where I’m considering trading it in for something else, especially since the reflection makes it harder to see. Just needed to vent a little.
If you’ve replaced your windshield three times, there might be an issue with either the road conditions or the quality of the glass you’re using.

Each replacement was with OEM glass. The first one was on a major highway, the second was on a country road with some work being done, and the third time was on a country road without any work happening.
@Lilyharper
Road debris doesn’t care about your windshield.

Kia’s OEM glass really isn’t great.

I haven’t had any issues with my 2023 GT, even though I’ve had rocks hit the windshield. No cracks so far.
Is something hitting your windshield each time? And have you considered just fixing the crack instead of replacing it every time?

Every time it’s been a rock hitting it. The latest one didn’t even seem to hit that hard. The first time I didn’t notice the crack until it spread. The second time, I made an appointment the next day, but the crack had already spread by then. The third time, I got it filled, and it lasted for about 10 days before it spread again after a trip.

I’d hate to see the condition of your bumper, grill, or headlights.

If rocks are hitting your windshield each time, how can you blame the vehicle for that?

I’ve had rocks hit many other vehicles, and this is the first one where I’ve had to replace the windshield.
Mine cracked within 6 months too… A rock hit it from a truck with aftermarket tires. Mud flaps should be a law. A few hours later, I had a whole line across my windshield. Another time, a large construction vehicle flung something at my windshield from the opposite side of the road. It left a scratch but didn’t turn into a crack.
@RadiantRogue
I wish the police would enforce laws about trucks throwing debris on the road.

It’s crazy that dump trucks don’t have covers. Who thought that was a good idea?
@RadiantRogue
They are supposed to have covers, but enforcement is the real issue.
My 2023 Sportage windshield cracked from a tiny pebble. It barely made a sound. Meanwhile, my 2016 Flex has survived much worse with no issues. The windshield quality on Kias really needs improvement. There are tons of complaints about this.
How much did the windshield replacements cost? I’m looking to replace mine for a 2021 Seltos, and I can’t find one for less than $1k in California.

My replacement cost about 2500 CAD for the OEM heated windshield.

For the OEM heated windshield, it’s about $1600.
