so i noticed one of my tire valve caps was missing the other day, didn’t think much of it. but today, my low tire pressure light came on, and it’s showing that same tire is low. could the missing cap cause this? the tire’s pressure number is close to the others, so i’m just confused why this one triggered the light.
it might be unrelated. just fill the tire up and keep an eye on it. a new cap can help keep dirt out, though.
most likely, the low pressure is due to the cooler weather. as temperatures drop, so does air pressure in the tires, thanks to boyle’s law. even in a perfectly sealed tire, you’ll lose a little pressure as it gets colder. the valve cap isn’t meant to keep the air in; it’s there to keep dirt out and prevent anything from pressing on the valve accidentally. you can grab replacements cheap at any auto store or online.
@arletetorres
appreciate it. it was just a bit low, so i topped it up.
yep, happens a lot with seasonal changes.
nah, the cap doesn’t really affect pressure. if you’re losing air, there might be a slow leak somewhere, especially with the cooler temps.
