Oil light on but oil is full... what could be wrong?

The oil light on my dashboard came on while driving, but the oil level is full. It turned off for a bit but came back on, so I pulled over. No unusual noises or other warning lights. The car was serviced about 1,000 miles ago. What could be causing this?

If the oil level is good, it might be an issue with the oil pressure sensor or the oil pump. Did you notice any changes in engine performance?

No changes in performance or engine noise. I’ll have the sensor checked. Thanks for the tip.

An intermittent oil light can indicate low oil pressure, which might be caused by a failing oil pump or clogged oil passages. Have you had the pressure tested?

Not yet. I’ll get it checked soon. Hopefully, it’s not the pump!

It’s good you stopped driving. Driving with the oil light on can lead to engine damage. Better to get it towed to a shop and inspected.

That’s what I did. Definitely don’t want to risk damaging the engine. Thanks!

Could be a faulty oil pressure sensor. They’re relatively cheap and easy to replace, so it’s worth ruling that out first.

I’ll suggest that to the mechanic. Hopefully, it’s just the sensor.
