Kia Niro 2019 with 175k miles… should I trade up?

I’m the original owner of my 2019 Kia Niro, and it’s been running great. The dealership has been offering to buy it, but I’ve always had the oil changed there, and nothing is wrong with the car. Part of me wants to upgrade, but I also don’t want to go back to making car payments. How do the newer Niros perform?

If your car doesn’t have major issues and you’re not in a better financial spot, I’d hold off. A 6-year-old car with this mileage isn’t too bad, and the trade-in value might be low if you go for a new one.

@ForteFanatic
One of the guys who works on my car was impressed by how well it’s been taken care of with so many miles. I’ll take that as a win…

Dealers often say they want to buy your car when you go in for services. But they won’t offer much for it with that mileage. It’s more about getting you to buy something new. The newer Niros are pretty much the same as yours, just a bit bigger. If you don’t mind a few more years of payments, then go ahead, but if you’re happy with what you have, just keep it.

Just tell them you’re not interested and ask them to stop offering. Why go for a new car when the one you have is working just fine? Plus, with all the changes happening, it might not be the right time.

This gives me hope for my 2019 with 90k miles. That offer to buy is just a tactic to get you to come in and possibly buy another car.

You’re good. Keep up with the maintenance, use good gas, and avoid running on empty. Your car should last a long time. I also wonder what they’ll do with a Niro that’s already got so many miles on it. Good luck selling it…

Hybrid cars like these don’t use the combustion engine as much as regular cars, so a lot of the mileage might not have worn it out as much. I’ve had mine since late 2019, and it’s been great with 78k km. It’s encouraging to see your car is doing so well.

@Smith
I’ll keep posting updates here. I had a Camry that started leaking oil at 120k miles. We joke that the real mileage was more like 90k with how often it switches to battery power. I love the sound of it when it does!

Are the original brakes still on?

When did you change them? I’m at 160k on my 2019 and still have the original brakes.

@Thomasenia
I swapped them at around 120k. I got nervous about how long they had been on there. My last car was a pickup, and I lost it because the brakes failed.

Is it the HEV model?

I’m concerned about battery life in HEVs. My 2019 PHEV has lost 2 miles of range with 95k miles. I’ve heard the battery should last around 200k miles. You’re getting close to that, so keep an eye on it. My old Prius went to 225,000 miles before it broke down, though.

@esleystanley
Funny you mention the timing belt. My husband and a friend changed the spark plugs and replaced the timing belt as well, just as a precaution. I’m a bit worried about the battery too, but I follow the manual and never run it too low. Despite the mileage, I’m still getting about 51 mpg, so I’m hoping it lasts longer.

Lol. Our 2019 only has 37k miles. People should really drive less. Life’s too short to spend so much time in a car.

I drive a couple of hundred miles each week, not for work, but for work-related tasks. Some people rely on driving for their jobs, so we shouldn’t judge.
