Kia dealer says I need a new engine… does this sound right?

Exactly my thought. They can replace the engine, but I’d be without a car for months only to find out the real issue isn’t fixed.

Ask them for a loaner in the meantime.

I went through something similar. They told me the electric motor needed replacement, but it turned out to be the transmission. That added two extra months to the repairs.
